Volleyball drops road match at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons volleyball team was defeated on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to the Florida Southern Moccasins in three sets.

The home team began the match with momentum after winning the first three points and remained out in front until a 5-1 run gave Eckerd its first lead moments later. Following a back-and-forth battle, Florida Southern surged back out in front with its largest margin of the game of five at 19-14, but again the Tritons fought back, using another 5-1 scoring burst to later even the score at 22 points apiece. The Mocs grabbed three of the final four points to hang on for the 25-23 victory, 

In the second, the Tritons were the team to begin strong, doubling up the Mocs 8-4 to start the frame. The lead moved to 10-5 shortly after before Florida Southern stormed back to tie the game at 11-11. Again, the Mocs built a late lead of five at 20-15, but Eckerd answered with another scoring outburst to eventually pull even at 23. An error from the Tritons and a kill by the Mocs gave the home team a 2-0 lead in the match. Florida Southern sealed the triumph with an eight-point win in the third. 

Kaitlyn Dohs, Seiler Hruska, and Natalie Aniol led Eckerd with seven kills apiece.

The Tritons will be back in action Tuesday at Rollins.
