ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the visiting Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday at Johnson Field.
The first half was busy on both sides of the field, with the two teams combining for 15 shot attempts through the first 45 minutes of play. Embry-Riddle sent off the first two looks of the game in the first minute before Eckerd saw four shots over the course of the next 11 minutes. In the 25th minute, the Tritons broke the scoreless tie after
Pharrell Williams drove one into the bottom corner of the net after taking a pass from
Zak Bailey up the middle. The Eagles answered with a tally in the 38th minute to make it a 1-1 game entering the halftime break.
The Tritons held a 7-3 advantage in the shots category thorough the final half, placing three of those on target.
Duran Van Woerkom stopped an Embry-Riddle shot 10 minutes in before a ball sent towards the goal was stopped by an Eckerd defender in the 65th minute right out in front. The Tritons held the Eagles without a shot attempt throughout the final 28 minutes to help keep the score at 1-1.
Van Woerkom finished with four saves in net, while
Daniel Freire posted a team-high four shots.
Eckerd will be back in action Wednesday at Rollins.
