Men's soccer defeated by Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's soccer team came up short on the road on Wednesday, falling to the Florida Southern Moccasins by a score of 2-1.

The Mocs struck first with a goal in the 22nd minute, beginning the game with a 5-0 shot advantage during that span. Thomas Jenkinson had a pair of looks for the Tritons in the later moments of the first half, but the lone strike on target was saved. Florida Southern added to its total with another tally with just over five minutes remaining to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

The home team grabbed the first three shots of the second half, but Eckerd answered with a string of three attempts across a three-minute time frame with about 15 minutes left to play. Stafford Clarke found the back of the net in the 84th minute to bring the Tritons within one, but the team went without a shot in the final five minutes and Florida Southern hung on to the 2-1 victory.

Clarke and Jenkinson led the offensive attack with two attempts each, while Duran Van Woerkom had five saves in net.

With the loss, Eckerd drops to 2-5-2 overall and 0-3 in the SSC. The team will be back home next Wednesday to host Saint Leo.
