Tritons Cruise by Buccaneers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - After a closely contested opening frame, the Eckerd women's basketball team took charge in the second quarter, en route to an impressive 91-48 victory over the Buccaneers on the road Saturday afternoon. 

The Tritons and Buccaneers were evenly matched in the early goings of the game. The teams swapped leads four times, before Eckerd held a 17-13 advantage after the opening ten minutes, thanks to impressive 3-point shooting by the Tritons. Eckerd began quarter two with heat, quickly running up its tally to a double-digit favor. Eckerd shot 6-for-10 from distance in the quarter, with triples by Jaylen Ostenson, Chance Bucher, and Emma Egan. Bucher was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line for Eckerd to hold a 27-point lead (47-20) at the half. 

Eckerd kept its foot on the gas to open the second half of action, running their margin up to 32. Ieva Korzane added 10 points in the frame for Eckerd to cruise to the final quarter of play leading 67-33. Seven Tritons contributed points in the last frame, for Eckerd to close the door 91-48.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Bucher led the squad with 23 points. She shot 4-for-11 from beyond the arc, and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. 
  • Egan's 17-point performance marked a career-high, while Ostenson and Korzane's 14 points apiece rounded out double-digits for the Tritons. 
  • Defensively, Greta Carrollo added four steals, while Lisa Michaelsen notched two blocks. 
  • All ten Tritons who played in the game recorded points in the game. 
  • EC outscored BU's bench 31-26. 
  • Eckerd shot a season-high 53.3 percent from 3-point range in the game, with a season-high 16 made 3-pointers. 

UP NEXT 

After a mid-week break, the Tritons are back in action next Saturday at home, facing off against Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at 2:00 PM at Saint Petersburg College.
