Tritons Fall to Greyhounds on Senior Night

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's soccer team let up a pair of late goals, as Assumption (Mass.) handed the Tritons their first loss of the season 2-0 at Johnson Field on Friday night.

Before the game, the Tritons celebrated six seniors for their contributions to the Eckerd women's soccer program: Sophia Butkovich, Emma Lou Smith, Ava Trachtenberg, Sierra Hudson, Cadence Talbert, and Kendall Drummond

A scoreless first period saw both teams generate a couple of good chances to net their first tally. Drummond and Olivia Ozbolt had a pair of promising chances in the opening ten minutes, but Drummond's shot was turned aside by the Greyhounds' keeper while Ozbolt pinged the top woodwork. Amy Woodhead had two shots on goal in the first half, both stifled by Frida Larson who kept the game knotted at zero heading into the intermission.

Cadence Talbert was tested early in the second stanza, fending off a shot in the 59th minute to keep the Greyhounds off the board. The Greyhounds capitalized in the 70th minute to take the lead. Assumption extended their lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute. Butkovich and Helen Scheer had a pair of opportunities to put the Tritons on the board late, but they were just short, as the Tritons fell 2-0 on senior night.
