ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped both games to Florida Tech by scores of 12-0 (5 Innings) and 6-4 at the Turley Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers took a large lead early, scoring six runs in the second inning on a solo homerun, grand slam, and squeeze bunt. FIT added three more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 12-0 lead. Eckerd had its best opportunity to score in the opening frame with a pair of runners in scoring position, but Eckerd was unable to capitalize.
FIT jumped out to an early lead in the finale with a pair of runs in the opening frame. The Tritons equalized in the fourth on a two-run double by Addisan Langston.
The Panthers' two-run single in the fifth gave them a 4-2 edge, but Eckerd rallied to even the score at 4-4 in the next inning on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Langston and a sacrifice fly by Avery Beauchaine.
The Panthers took the lead in the seventh, adding the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly before adding an insurance run later in the inning to seal the win.
