ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After the Panthers took an early lead, the Eckerd softball team rallied to pull within a run but was unable to take the lead, dropping the series opener, 5-2, to Florida Tech at the Turley Athletic Complex on Friday night.
The Panthers quickly took the lead with a two-run homer in the opening frame. Eckerd responded with a run in the third off Megan Diaz's ground out.
FIT plated a run in the fourth, but the Tritons echoed it in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Ella Coiner. EC had the opportunity to do more damage with the base loaded but was unable to push a run across.
The Panthers added two runs in the fifth to pad their lead and seal the game.
