ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Senior Lauren Margolis delivered the heroics in game one, lifting the Eckerd softball team to a 3-2 walk-off victory over Saint Leo at the Turley Athletic Complex before dropping game two, 7-0, on senior day Saturday.
Similar to the series opener Friday night, Eckerd and Saint Leo remained in a stalemate throughout the game. SLU scored first with a run in the opening frame. However, the Tritons evened the score in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double by Hannah Taylor.
EC took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, as Ella Coiner scored on a wild pitch. The Lions evened the score in the next frame as a run crossed on a wild pitch.
Jadyn Wright delivered a two-out single in the seventh before stealing second. Lauren Margolis then delivered the walk-off single to right center for the 3-2 win.
Saint Leo scored in the first frame in the finale for a 1-0 lead. They added another two runs in the third on a squeeze bunt and RBI double before plating three in the fourth for a 6-0 favor. They added an insurance run in the sixth for a 7-0 cushion.
