ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team and Saint Leo stayed within a run of each other throughout the game, but the Lions added the go-ahead run in the seventh as the Tritons dropped the series opener, 3-2, at the Turley Athletic Complex on Friday night.
SLU added a run in the opening frame with an RBI groundout. However, Lauren Margolis equalized for Eckerd in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot to left center field.
The Tritons took a 2-1 favor in the second as Mia Hernandez delivered an RBI single. However, the Lion evened the score in the next frame, scoring off an error.
EC had another opportunity to score in the fifth with a runner in scoring position, but Eckerd couldn't push a run across. Saint Leo took the lead in the seventh. Following a lead-off double, the runner advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly.
