TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team went toe-to-toe with the No. 2-ranked team in the national, dropping both games in the doubleheader by a run as Tampa took the opener 2-1 and the finale 1-0 on Saturday.
UT scored early in the opener with an RBI single in the opening frame. The Spartan took a 2-0 lead in the fourth with an RBI double.
Eckerd had quality chances in the second and third innings, with runners on third, but were unable to push a run across. However, the Tritons plated a run in the fifth as Lauren Margolis delivered a one-out bases-loaded RBI single. EC was unable to push another run across, falling 2-1.
Tampa plated the only run of the finale in the third on an RBI triple. Jadyn Wright broke up the Spartans' no-hit bid in the seventh with an infield single, but UT turned a double play to end the threat. Hannah Taylor added a single as well, but Eckerd was unable to push a run across.
