WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team split a doubleheader at Palm Beach Atlantic Thursday afternoon, shutting out the Sailfish in the opener, 4-0, before dropping the finale, 5-1.
Eckerd added its first run of the opener in the third inning. Ella Coiner and Lauren Margolis singled in the inning to put runners on the corners, and Coiner scored as part of a double steal.
The Tritons added another two runs in the fifth as Hannah Taylor added an RBI double and a run scored following an error.
Addisan Langston gave EC an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single before Avery Beauchaine closed the door in the bottom of the frame for the win.
The Sailfish jumped out to an early lead in the finale with five runs over the first two innings.
Eckerd plated a run in the fourth, as Taylor broke up PBA's no-hit bid with a double before her pinch runner, Mackenzie Smith, scored on Langston's single. However, EC could not rally any further as Palm Beach Atlantic took the win.
