ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team defeated Franklin Pierce University (NH) 5-2 at the Fred Bullard Courts on Monday afternoon.
The Tritons (9-5) defeated the Ravens (3-8) after taking the doubles point and four singles matches, with one win by default.
With a win by default in the third doubles, Eckerd only needed one doubles win to clinch the point. Olivia Lindestaf and Catherine Cole knocked off their opponents 6-1 in the two's draw. With the doubles point already clinched, the top doubles match went unfinished, as it was suspended 4-4 during a brief period of rain.
The Tritons resumed play with singles. After the Falcons tied 1-1 by taking the No. 3 singles, Lindestaf dominated in the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-2. Misdorp competed in a track meet of a match in the top singles spot. After falling behind 6-4 in set one, she pulled out a 7-6 (7-5) win in set two to force a third set. She ultimately dropped the point 6-4 in set three.
Maya Soligo clinched the match for the Tritons, only dropping one set in the No.4 position, taking the match 6-1, 6-0. Idiakez shut out her opponent in the No. 5 position 6-0 in straight sets.
Eckerd travels to West Palm Beach on Wednesday for a conference matchup against Palm Beach Atlantic at 2:00 PM.
