Tritons Shutout Pride

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team shutout the Purdue University Northwest (Ind.) Pride, 13-0 on Tuesday night at the Turley Athletic Complex in seven innings. 

The Tritons came out on fire with a double play in the first inning. In the third, Gavin Grubbs posted back-to-back strikeouts to bring the Tritons up to bat, where Eckerd added six runs, opening on an RBI bunt single  by Bradley White. A single through the left side by Tyler Cox allowed two Tritons to reach home on a throwing error for a 3-0 favor. Kyle Ericson added an RBI single down the left line before Alex Brazer hit a two-run homer to bring the tally to six. 

Eckerd added five more runs in the fourth, with two more RBIs for Alex Brazer. The Tritons sealed the deal, adding insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to retire the game by run-rule after seven.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

  • Gavin Grubbs earned the win, recording four strikeouts over five innings of work while only allowing two hits. 
  • Eckerd only allowed three hits on the day, with Rick Koch and Jack Lizewski each recording one strikeout in relief. 
  • Brazer led with four RBIs on the day, going 2-for-4 from the plate. 
  • Cam Collier added two RBIs.
  • Reid Lisle, Cox, Ericson, and Brazer each registered two hits on the day. 

UP NEXT 

Eckerd returns to conference play this Friday, traveling down to Miami, Fla. to face Barry University. Game one of the series is set for 6:00 PM on Friday.
