Eckerd Sweeps Chadron State

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team's bats erupted for 12 runs on the day for a sweep of the Chadron State (Colo.) Eagles, 7-1 and 5-2 at the Turley Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon. 

Eckerd took an early lead, with an RBI single by Ella Coiner to bring home Lauren Margolis for a 1-0 favor in the opening frame. With two outs in the second, Henchenski hit one over the centerfield wall to equalize. It wasn't until the third when Hannah Taylor singled to left field, once again scoring Margolis to regain the Triton lead. Eckerd exploded in the bottom of the fifth, adding five runs. Eckerd closed the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to take game one 7-1. 

Eckerd opened game two on a 4-0 tear. They added two runs apiece in the second and third innings for the early 4-0 advantage. The Eagles added a run in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the fifth, getting themselves back in the game with only a two-run deficit. Megan Diaz had an RBI single in the fifth to add an insurance run for a 5-2 favor. Reese Founds ended the game on a huge strikeout to retire the contest, 5-2.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Founds had a career-high seven strikeouts through seven innings of work. 
  • Abby Lucas had a career-tying two RBIs in game one of the day. 
  • Addisan Langston and Kinsley Castro each recorded a season-tying two RBIs.
  • Coiner hit 4-for-6 on the day, with one RBI. Taylor went 3-for-7 with one RBI. 
  • Gracie Cicarello and Mia Hernandez both recorded their first career RBIs today in game two. 
  • Olivia Johnson closed game one with two strikeouts through four innings, allowing no runs. 
  • Jenna Bulcher recorded her first career hit. 

UP NEXT 

Eckerd hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to Daytona Saturday to face West Alabama and Valdosta (Ga.) at the ERAU Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
