DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team rallied in both contests on the first day of the ERAU Invitational but ultimately fell in both games to West Alabama, 3-2, in the opener and Valdosta State, 6-2, in game two on Saturday.
After a scoreless opening three innings of game one, the Tigers tacked on all their three runs in the fourth frame, scoring in a pair of RBI base hits and a passed ball.
The Tritons rallied in the seventh for a pair of runs. Ella Coiner plated the first run with an RBI double, and Hannah Taylor followed with an RBI single. However, the Tigers coaxed a groundout to end the game.
Eckerd struck first as Lauren Margolis delivered an RBI single in the opening frame of game two. However, the Blazers responded to take the lead in the bottom of the frame with three runs.
VSU added another run in the third. Eckerd plated a run in the fourth as Gracie Ciccarello delivered an RBI single. The Blazers added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. EC threatened to rally in the seventh with the first two batters reaching, but VSU retired the rest of the side to end the game.
