MELBOURNE, Fla. - After trailing by double-digits in the second half, the Eckerd men's basketball team used a 7-0 run to surge past the Panthers. The Tritons used strong defense down the stretch to top Florida Tech, 65-63, on the road Wednesday night.
Both teams struggled offensively in the opening half, with both teams shooting below 30 percent. The teams traded baskets throughout the opening half, with FIT holding a one-possession lead for most of the frame. The Tritons entered the half trailing 30-26.
The Panthers went on a 12-2 run early in the second half to take a 42-30 favor. A 7-0 Tritons' run midway through the period pulled EC within one at the 8:05 mark. A triple by Isaiah Placie a minute later tied the game before a Carr Thiam jumper gave the Tritons a two-point favor with 4:07 left. FiT evened the score with 57 seconds left, but Thiam's free throws second later gave EC the lead while EC's defense forced two off-balance shots to seal the win.
