Tritons Drop Twinbill to No. 15 Sharks in SSC Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Despite 18 hits over both games, the Eckerd softball team dropped its doubleheader to No. 15 Nova Southeastern, 5-1 and 11-3, in the SSC season opener at the Turley Athletic Complex Friday night. 

After NSU scored a run in the third, Lauren Margolis evened the score for the Tritons with a solo blast to center field in the opener. 

The Sharks took a 2-1 lead on an RBI single in the infield in the sixth. They added three insurance runs in the seventh. Eckerd put its first two batters on in the seventh but was unable to complete the rally. 

NSU plated four runs in the opening frame of game two. The Tritons rallied for two runs in the fourth. Jadyn Wright drove in the first run on a squeeze bunt while a run scored with the bases loaded during Ella Coiner's at-bat on fielder's choice.  

The Sharks plated three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 9-2 favor. Addison Langston added her fifth hit of the day in the sixth with an RBI single as EC trailed 9-3. Nova Southeastern added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh for the win.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

  • Adisan Langston led Eckerd, going 5-for-7 in the doubleheader. She posted a 3-for-3 performance in game one. 
  • Margolis' homerun was her first of the season and the 12th of her career. 
  • Margolis, Langston, Megan Diaz, Kinsley Castro, and Wright all posted two hits in the finale as Eckerd outhit the Sharks 11-9. 
  • Olivia Johnson fanned four over 4.1 innings.

The final game of the series is moved up to 10:00 AM on Saturday due to incoming weather.
