ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - With five runs in the first inning, the Eckerd baseball team posted a dominant victory over the Florida Southern Moccasins 14-4 in a non-conference midweek matchup at the Turley Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
Wil Stockman struck out one in the first frame to get Eckerd off to a good start. The Tritons opened on a five-run tear in the bottom of the frame with a pair of RBI singles by Kyle Abbott and Cam Collier. Kyle Ericson drew a walk with the bases loaded to put EC up three. After the Mocs turned a double play to catch Tyler Cox out at home and Collier out at third, Joe Wike hit a two-RBI single up the middle for a 5-0 Triton lead, cycling back to the top of the order before Florida Southern could retire the inning with a flyout to centerfield.
Ericson picked up his second RBI in as many innings as he was walked once again while Cox came home on the wild pitch from Curry. The Tritons picked up another four runs in the third to bring Eckerd's total to double digits.
The Mocs put up three runs in the fourth to shorten their deficit to seven. Eckerd added another four-run inning in the seventh to bring its total to 14. Collier picked up his third RBI of the night before he and Cox scored off of a dropped ball in left field. Ben Waxler pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth before Nick Romagnola pitched the ninth.
