DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped a pair of contests on day two of the ERAU Invitational in Daytona Beach, both in five innings, falling to West Alabama 16-4 in the morning and Valdosta State (Ga.) 10-2 in the afternoon Sunday.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the opening frame. Eckerd rallied with a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Lauren Margolis.
UWA padded its lead with six runs in the second and a run in the third and fourth. They took a 16-1 favor in the fifth with another four runs. EC rallied in the fifth with three runs on a Margolis RBI double and two runs scoring on an error, but the Tritons could not make up the difference, falling 16-4 in five innings.
VSU took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but Hannah Taylor added an RBI single to even the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the stanza.
The Blazers added two runs in the second inning to take the lead for good. They tacked on another seven runs over the final three innings. EC added on a run in the fifth, scoring on an error.
