Tritons Sweep Wildcats

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team swept Bethune-Cookman (Fla.) 7-0 at the Fred Bullard Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The Tritons (2-0) beat the Wildcats (0-5) after earning the doubles point and taking all six singles matches. 

In back-to-back matches, the Tritons nearly swept the doubles point, going 2-1 in doubles play. Eckerd's top pairing of Ericka Chavarria and Kylie Misdorp shutout the Wildcats' Imbo Nloga and Sambhus, 6-0. Maya Soligo and Maialen Idiakez followed in similar fashion in the three's spot, defeating Elie and Clark 6-1. A long fought match in the No. 2 position saw Olivia Lindestaf and Lara Machado fall to Shaw and Bassette, 7-5. 

Eckerd was strong in singles play, taking all six matches to complete the sweep. Notably, Morgan O'Connor shutout Courdeja Clark in straight sets for a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 position. Chavarria, Lindestaf, and Misdorp all shutout their opponents in one set. Chavarria took set one 6-0 and set two 6-3 in the top singles match. Lindestaf battled hard in the first set for a 7-5 victory before taking set two 6-0 in the second position. Misdorp only dropped one game in singles play, defeating Sambhaus 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. Soligo and Idiakez rounded out the singles points for Eckerd, with Soligo taking the No. 4 spot 6-4, 7-5, and Idiakez taking the fifth singles 6-2, 6-1.

The Tritons take a short break before traveling to Warner (Fla.) on February 20 to face the Royals at 3:00 PM.
