Tritons Cruise by Tigers, 93-30

LAKELAND, Fla. - A strong defensive game, matched by five players with double-figures pushed the Eckerd women's basketball team to a dominant 93-30 victory over Trinity (Fla.) on Saturday afternoon. 

After a slow start to the first quarter, the Tritons began to dominate, putting up 21 points in the opening period. It took almost a whole minute off the clock before either team could find the twine. Lisa Michaelsen opened the scoring for the Tritons at the 9:02 mark in the quarter. The teams traded baskets twice before back-to-back baskets by Emma Egan started the ball rolling for Eckerd to score 16 unanswered points. Chance Bucher and Ieva Korzane added to Eckerd's run before a free throw by Ariadna Kuc closed out the first frame with the Tritons leading 21-7. Martyna Kowalska was strong to start the second quarter, with two made baskets and a steal. Eckerd ended the frame on a seven-point run, for a 42-14 advantage into the intermission. 

Eckerd dialed it up from distance in the third quarter, draining five three's in the frame. The third quarter was the only frame where the Tigers scored double-digits. Eckerd was locked down defensively in the fourth quarter, allowing the Tigers only five points in the final ten minutes. Kowalska added a block and a steal, while Paloma Simón and Brynn Roggenburk each added a steal, and he team collected 17 rebounds in the frame. Eckerd closed the game with its largest margin of victory of the season, with a 93-30 victory.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • As a team, Eckerd notched season-highs in eight categories: points (93), field goals made (34), field goal attempts (70), 3-point field goals made (10), rebounds (56), assists (25), steals (11), and blocked shots (6 - tied with Columbus State, 12/14/24). 
  • Two Tritons tallied double-doubles: Kowalska with 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Egan with 12 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Egan's 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks were all career-highs. 
  • Simón added a career-high 17 points. 
  • Roggenburk made her first career appearance and contributed a career-high 11 points off the bench. 
  • Bucher rounded out double-figures with 13 points. 
  • Sonja Schuch led the squad with a career-high five assists. 
  • Eckerd's 93 points are the most in a contest since scoring 93 at Nova Southeastern on December 3, 2022.
