VALDOSTA, Ga. - After leading after the first quarter, the Eckerd women's basketball team came up just short in their season opener against West Florida, as they fell 65-55 on Thursday night.
The Argos opened up the scoring for the game, but it was not long before Paloma Simon netted her first as a Triton to put Eckerd on the board. Martyna Kowalska added to give Eckerd its first lead of the game at the 7:45 minute mark. Leads swapped once again before Simon knotted the score at six. Chance Bucher then hit her first shot of the season for an 8-6 favor. She would add five more points in the frame before the quarter ended with Eckerd ahead 15-10. The Argos flipped the scripts with a 27-point second quarter, for an eight-point lead heading into the half.
Eckerd chipped away at the lead in the third quarter, with Kowalska shrinking the Argos lead to two, twice. West Florida was able to score one final basket in the third for a 47-43 favor heading into the final frame. After a pair of buckets by Greta Carollo and Kowalska, Kowalska tied the game at 49 with just over five minutes remaining in the game. However, West Florida gained their momentum back, with Eckerd falling in the season opener 65-55.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Bucher posted her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
