Vieira's, Green's Double-Double's Paced Tritons Over Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla.  -  A pair of double-doubles by Lauryn Vieira and Bella Green paced the Eckerd women's basketball team to another dominant victory over Florida Southern 81-66 on the road on Wednesday night. 

The Tritons and Moccasins traded baskets back and forth in the opening frame. A pair of free throws by Lauryn Vieira gave Eckerd its first advantage of the game at the 2:41 mark, allowing Eckerd to lead 8-7. The Tritons held a 12-11 advantage after the first quarter. Florida Southern opened the second quarter on a five-point run to flip the lead in its favor. A basket by Martyna Kowalska at the 6:40 mark equalized for the Tritons before running away with the lead. Eckerd went on an 11-0 run, up 27-18. Arielle Dabu silenced the run for Eckerd to keep the Mocs deficit to single digits. A triple by Jessie Ford brought Eckerd to a double-digit lead with 3:40 remaining in the half. A last-second foul allowed Vieira two free throws for Eckerd to take a 40-26 lead into the break. 

The Tritons kept the momentum in the second half, working to a 20-point favor. Hannah Wentworth went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in the third quarter. Eckerd took a comfortable 63-43 lead heading into the final quarter.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Vieira and Green recorded double-double's, each with 22 points and 10 rebounds. 
  • Wentworth and Kowalska rounded out double-digit scoring figures with 18 and 16 points, respectively.
  • Kowalska flirted with a double-double, adding nine rebounds, while Vieira flirted with a triple-double with nine assists. 
  • Kowalska's nine rebounds were a career-high, while her 16 points tied her career-high.
  • Vieira was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe, while the team shot 88.2 percent from the line. 
  • Wentworth shot 6-for-7 from three on the night. 
  • EC outscored FSC in the paint 42-22.
