FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - An explosive third quarter for the Sharks saw the Eckerd women's basketball team fall on the road 70-54 against Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night.
Nova Southeastern got the early jump, going up 6-0 in the first three minutes of the game. Neither team could drain a bucket until a pair of free throws by Ieva Korzane put the Tritons on the board, kicking off an eight-point Triton run. Martyna Kowalska added six points in that stretch to give Eckerd its first favor of the game at 8-6. A last-second jumper by former Triton Nicole Scales equalized the quarter at 10 apiece. The Sharks worked back to a five-point favor before Chance Bucher and Kowalska clawed back to even at 15-15. At the 5:18 mark of the second quarter, the Sharks regained their lead and never relinquished it. Eckerd trailed by six, heading into intermission down 28-22.
The Sharks had an explosive third quarter, working to a 23-point favor. Bella Green and Bucher chipped away at the deficit, bringing the Tritons within 20 heading into the final frame, 54-34. A promising six-point run by the Tritons to open the fourth quarter shrunk the deficit to 16. However, Eckerd struggled to come back, unable to come within single digits, as they fell 70-54.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Kowalska led the Tritons with 15 points and six rebounds. Bucher and Vieira rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 and 10, respectively.
- The Sharks were stingy defensively, only allowing the Tritons nine free throw attempts in the entire game.
- Vieira's six assists tonight put her season total to 100, ranking first in the conference and tying for fourth in Division II.
- Defensively, Vieira added four steals and four rebounds. Jessie Ford and Chance Bucher added two steals each.
