ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A Spartans goal off a corner kick was the difference as the Eckerd men's soccer team dropped its first Sunshine State Conference game Wednesday night by a score of 1-0 at Johnson Field.
Eckerd pressured early in the first half with a string of three shots on frame over a seven-minute span. However, Tommy Shepherd and Finn Steels' shots were turned back as the teams entered halftime scoreless.
EC came out of the second half aggressively, registering three shots inside the first five minutes, but Eckerd was unable to convert. The Spartans struck in the 59th minute as Ricardo Sepulveda converted on a corner kick. Eckerd had one final chance to equalize in the 83rd minute, but Frederik Heise's shot missed high as Tampa took the 1-0 win.
