Tritons Drop Twinbill at Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team rallied to take the lead in both games but ultimately dropped both ends of the doubleheader, 8-4 and 7-6, to Florida Tech at Nancy Bottle Field on Saturday afternoon. 

FIT scored a run in the opening frame of game one for an early 1-0 lead. However, Eckerd added three runs in the third for a 3-1 favor. Lauren Margolis plated two runs on a single before Skylar Redish added an RBI single. 

The Panthers took a 7-3 lead with six runs in the fourth frame.

Margolis added an RBI double in the seventh, but FIT added an insurance run in the sixth to seal the win. 

The Panthers grabbed an early edge in the finale with two runs in the first stanza. However, Eckerd rallied to take the lead in the third. A run scored on an error before Jenice Casanas placed two runs on a single up the middle.

Redish added a two-run homer in the third for a 5-3 Eckerd favor.

The Panthers added a run in the third. Eckerd scored another run in the seventh on Margolis' RBI single. However, FIT added four runs in the seventh for the walk-off win, adding runs on a two-run double, single, and error.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Margolis led Eckerd in game one with two hits and two RBIs. She also led EC in the finale with three hits and an RBI. She finished the series with a .714/.800/1.00 slash line. 
  • Redish added two RBIs in the finale on her fifth homerun of the season. It was also the 18th homerun of her career, ranking tied for fifth in program history. 
  • Casanas added two RBIs in the finale.
