Profitt Reaches Milestone as Tritons Sweep Doubleheader Over Sailfish

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tritons score early in the opener to take the game 4-3 before using a pair of homeruns by Ella Coiner and Skylar Redish in the second game 5-1 as the Eckerd softball team won the series over Palm Beach Atlantic Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex. Head coach Katie Profitt earned her 100th career victory in the opener.  

The Tritons scored early in the opener, with all four runs in the opening frame. Skylar Redish drove in Eckerd's first run with an RBI single, followed by an RBI double by Megan Diaz. EC added a run on an error before Diaz scored the final run, crossing as part of a double steal. 

The Sailfish pulled within two runs in the third on an RBI single and RBI double. 

PBA added a run in the sixth on an RBI single. They got the leadoff runner aboard in the seventh, but Eckerd shut the door to seal the win. 

In the second game, Eckerd took a 1-0 edge in the third on a Coiner RBI single, plating Jenice Casanas.

The Tritons padded their lead in the fifth on a pair of two-run homeruns by Coiner and Redish. 

PBA threatened in the seventh, adding a run on an error before loading the bases with one out, but the Triton defense coaxed a double play to end the game.

  • Benefield pitched a complete game in the opener, collecting her seventh win of the season. 
  • Head coach Katie Profitt earned her 100th career win with the victory in game one. 
  • Coiner added two hits and three RBIs in the finale, while Redish had two RBIs. 
  • Coiner's homerun was the first of her career, while Redish's was her third of the season and the 16th of her career. 
  • Avery Beauchaine earned her third win of the season, tossing a complete game while scattering five hits. 
  • The Tritons collected the series win over the Sailfish for the second straight year.
