ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team stretched its win streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of Bloomsburg (Penn.), 5-2 and 2-0, on a pair of late-inning rallies at the Turley Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
In the opener, the Tritons struck first with a run in the opening inning as Lauren Margolis drew a bases-loaded walk. Brooklyn Cardona gave EC a 2-0 lead with a squeeze bunt in the second inning, scoring Margolis.
The Huskies evened the score in the fifth with a pair of runs on an RBI triple and an RBI single.
Megan Diaz gave EC back the edge in the fifth with an RBI triple. Ella Coiner added two insurance runs in the sixth with a two-run single.
Despite runners in scoring position in the first, third, and fourth innings of the finale, Eckerd could not push a run across with the team in a stalemate through five innings.
Addisan Langston broke the deadlock in the sixth with a two-run double to center field, scoring Cardona and Margolis, who singled in the inning.
BU threatened in the seventh with two runners in scoring position with two outs, but Olivia Johnson coaxed a strikeout to seal the win.
