Eckerd Falls to Emmanuel on Opening Day

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tritons baseball team struck early, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Emmanuel (Ga.) fought back with a four-run inning in the sixth and tied the game in the seventh. Eckerd and Emmanuel scored a run a piece in the ninth, sending the game to extra innings. Thomas Collins scored the lone run in extra innings as the Tritons fell 7-6 on opening day at the Turley Athletic Complex Friday night.

Michael Ballard doubled to center field to lead off the game. A pair of singles by Cam Collier and Kyle Abbott brought Ballard home. An RBI by Tyler Young plated Collier before a sacrifice fly scored Abbott for the third run of the game. Jake Andriole brought in the final run in the inning with an infield single.

With the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, the Lions scored two runs on a walk and hit by pitch. A single to right field by Braeden Eavenson brought home two runners, pulling the Lions within one before a run in the seventh tied the game.

Muniz picked up an RBI, giving Emmanuel their first lead of the game in the ninth. A double by Collier in the bottom of the ninth got the Tritons on base for them to equalize. Jake Fajardo replaced Collier as he scored on Young's sacrifice fly to center field to send the game to extra innings.

After 1-2-3 innings by Tucker Shalley and Mayfield, Eavenson scored in the top of the 11th on Collins' RBI single. The Tritons could not answer back in the 11th.
