Tritons Cruise Past Sharks on Senior Night

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The No. 8 Eckerd women's basketball team utilized a large third-quarter run on the way to a 17-point victory, 80-63, over Nova Southeastern on Senior Night at the McArthur Center Wednesday night. 

After swapping the first baskets, Eckerd followed with an 8-2 run to take an early edge. EC ended the first frame with a 17-11 lead. A 9-2 Sharks' run to start the second quarter pulled NSU within four. EC's lead fluctuated between four and seven points until the 2:10 mark, where a Ragnheidur Einarsdottir triple ignited a 7-2 run as EC entered the half up 40-29. 

Eckerd held a steady lead to start the second half before utilizing a 17-2 run, including five triples in the stretch, to distance themselves and take a 66-40 favor at the end of the third. NSU started the final stanza on an 8-1 stretch, but Eckerd continued to cruise to a 17-point victory.

"We put together a balanced game tonight on both sides of the floor. This was a great win to honor our seniors," stated head coach Paul Honsinger '98. "This is a special senior class. They have won 80 percent of their contests during their careers and have been exceptional in the classroom as well. I'm proud of each of them for what they have accomplished."
