Vieira's Program Record Catapults Tritons Over Buccaneers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.  -  Lauryn Vieira set the program record for career assists at 426 to lift the Eckerd women's basketball team over Barry 89-60 on Sunday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

A back-and-forth start to the game was brief before Eckerd took over. After the score was knotted at 10 halfway through the opening frame, the Tritons began to pull away on a pair of threes by Hannah Wentworth and Chance Bucher, working to a 13-point favor at the end of the first 10 minutes. Wentworth added another five unanswered points to open the second quarter, starting an eight-point run. The Tritons closed the frame on a seven-point run for a comfortable 52-33 favor heading into the break.

A three-point play by Vieira extended Eckerd's favor to 22, a mere 15 seconds into the half. EC worked to a 26-point lead before heading into the final frame leading 74-49. Eckerd outscored Barry 15-11 in the final frame to solidify the 89-60 victory.
