TAMPA, Fla. - After trailing by 22 points at halftime, the Eckerd men's basketball team pulled within one possession with 40 seconds left but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 91-83 to Tiffin (Ohio) on the second day of the Tampa Classic on Sunday.
After a back-and-forth opening seven minutes, Tiffin went on a 14-2 run to take an 11-point advantage at the eight-minute media timeout. Eckerd trimmed its deficit to six, but TU ended the half on a 22-6 stretch to take a 51-29 favor at intermission.
Tiffin held a steady lead early in the second frame before the Tritons went on a 14-5 run to pull within 11 at the 9:35 mark. Eckerd pulled within six at the three-minute mark following an 11-3 run. A Kent Garard triple from the corner pulled Eckerd within four at 85-81. However, Tiffin made its free throws down the stretch as EC was unable to complete the comeback.
