No.4 Tritons Face No. 5 Moccasins in NCAA South Regional

TAMPA, Fla. – The  Eckerd volleyball team is set to make back-to-back NCAA South Region Tournament appearances, as the fourth-seed Tritons take on the fifth-seeded Moccasins at 7:30 PM in te Bob Martinez Center.

ABOUT THE TRITONS

  • Eckerd (22-8; 12-8 SSC) opened the season on a seven-game win streak. The streak was silenced in the conference opener, as the Tritons fell to then No. 4 Tampa.
  • The Tritons defeated the No. 18 Wingate Bulldogs 3-1 at the Emmanuel Tournament earlier in the season. Nyla Muskovin (11), Erin Garr (11), Seiler Hruska (11), Jaida Clark (10), and Stella Antypa (10) each logged double-digit kills in the win. 
  • Clark, Antypa, and Kalli Schoening each received All-SSC Honors. Clark and Antypa were named second team all-conference, while Schoening was named to the third team. 
  • Antypa received AVCA First Team All-Region honors. 
  • Eckerd sits second in the conference in points-per-set, averaging 17.64. 
  • The Tritons are strong defensively, as they rank second in the conference in blocks per set (2.55), and opponent hitting percentage (.147). They sit ninth in Division II in blocks per set while thier opponent hitting percentage ranks 29th. 
  • Eckerd sits atop the conference in service aces, averaging 1.86 aces per set for a total of 195 aces. 
  • Schoening leads the conference in blocks per set with 1.28. She totaled 131 blocks with 112 block assists and 19 solo blocks. Schoening's 1.28 blocks per set sit tenth in the nation. 
  • Ashley Eck ranks second in the conference in digs per set at 4.50. 

ABOUT THE MOCCASINS

  • Florida Southern is one of six SSC teams to make the NCAA Tournament. 
  • FSC leads the SSC in blocks per set at 2.59. 
  • Florida Southern had four All-SSC selections: Mackenzie Petermann (first team), Madison Fowler (third team), Elena Djokovic (third team), and Kiersten Kraus (third team). 
  • Petermann ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set with 3.81. 
  • Florida Southern has not lost a game since their 3-0 loss to Eckerd on October 31, 2023. 

NOTES AND NUMBERS

  • The Mocs have a 28-15 series lead on the Tritons. However, the Tritons have won their last four matchups, including twice this season (3-1, and 3-0). 
  • The last time these two teams faced off in the NCAA Tournament was in 2012 at Tampa, when Florida Southern won in a five-set thriller (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 28-30, 12-15). 
  • In their last matchup, Antypa and Clark led the way, as Antypa nearly posted a double-double with 13 kills and nine digs in the first macthup at FSC. Clark added 10 kills and hit .500 en route to the Tritons three-set sweep. 
  • The winner of the game will face the winner of No. 1 Tampa/Spring Hill Saturday at 7:30 PM.
