SAINT LEO, Fla. - An 11-1 run midway through the second half and a 52.6 percent 3-point shooting percentage fueled the Eckerd men's basketball team to its sixth straight win as the Tritons topped Saint Leo, 81-73, in their SSC opener on the road Wednesday night.
The Tritons and Lions swapped baskets early before a Timothy Thompson layup ignited an 11-2 run as Eckerd took a 28-21 favor. SLU responded to even the score at the 5:21 mark. Eckerd jumped out to a seven-point lead again before entering the half up 40-35.
Back-to-back jumpers gave the Tritons a nine-point lead early in the second frame, but the Lions evened the score at 53-53 at the 12:07 mark. Eckerd followed with an 11-1 run to go in front by double-digits. The Tritons held a steady lead the rest of the way to seal its sixth straight win.
