LAKEWOOD, Colo. - A third-quarter surge by the Cougars lifted Colorado Christian over the No. 13 Eckerd women's basketball team by a score of 72-67 on the road Saturday night.
Eckerd jumped out to an early lead, as a pair of threes by Ieva Korzane led the Tritons to a 10-3 favor in the opening five minutes. The Cougars clawed back within three to trail 15-12 with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter before EC closed the frame leading 17-14. An and-one bucket by Agnes Paul evened the score for the Cougars early in the second stanza. Chance Bucher hit back-to-back triples to help the Tritons regain a six-point favor. Late in the second quarter, Colorado Christian took its first lead, going up 26-24 with 3:14 to play in the half. Bella Green equalized for the Tritons, and Korzane hit her third 3-pointer on the night for Eckerd to regain its lead, 29-26 into the break.
A six-point run by Paul early in the third gave the Cougars their second lead of the game. Martyna Kowalska added four points to bring the Tritons back within one. Eckerd went on an eight-point run to regain its lead 42-38, with Jessie Ford accounting for five points in the stretch. Colorado Christian ended the quarter with a 5-0 run to lead 47-44 heading into the final frame. The Cougars pulled away in the fourth, not relinquishing the lead for a final score of 72-67.
