ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Following nearly a full-day weather delay to start the second half, Blake Bauer's late goal led the Eckerd men's soccer team to a draw with Delta State (Miss.), 1-1, in its season opener at Johnson Field on Friday afternoon.
Neither team could generate a quality look on net in the first half Thursday night before a lightning delay forced the game to Friday afternoon.Â
DSU registered three shots within the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but Lynden Dawson turned each back. Eckerd broke through late with a goal by Bauer in the 83rd minute. Harry Laing intercepted a pass at midfield and found an open Luciano Rodriguez at the 18, who one-timed a pass to Bauer for the goal. The Statesmen equalized in the 89th minute on a penalty kick.Â
