ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After dropping the opener, the Tritons' bats erupted for a run-rule win in the finale against Saint Leo, as the Eckerd Softball team split its doubleheader, 10-5 and 10-2, Friday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Both teams began the day hot offensively, as the Tritons and Lions combined for seven runs in the first frame. Saint Leo opened the scoring with a pair of homeruns, a three-run shot to left field, and a solo blast to left-center for an early 4-0 lead. However, Eckerd answered right back, tacking on three runs of its own when Brenna Lokeinsky scored on an errant throw. Lauren Margolis then hit a two-run homerun to left field to pull the Tritons within one, 4-3.
Saint Leo added six runs in innings three through six. The Tritons were unable to complete the comeback despite plating two runs along the way when Megan Diaz scored on an RBI groundout, and Jenice Casanas scored on an errant throw.
Eckerd flipped the script in the second showing, plating four runs in the first inning via a pair of homeruns: a solo shot by Lokeinsky and a three-run blast by Addisan Langston. In the second inning, Saint Leo smacked another homerun and scored via a sacrifice fly in the fourth to trim EC's lead, 4-2.
The Tritons' bats came alive once more in the fourth stanza, as they added five runs via a Lokeinsky RBI groundout, a Hannah Burge RBI single, and a Brooklyn Cardona three-run triple. Eckerd notched its final tally in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Lokeinsky to earn the run-rule win, 10-2.
