Eckerd Drops Doubleheader to Nova Southeastern

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Despite a fifth-inning rally that saw the Tritons plate three runs, the Eckerd softball team could not overcome a Nova Southeastern offensive outburst as EC dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 13-3. NSU's offense continued in the second game, plating five runs in innings four through six to take the game, 8-3, Saturday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.

The Sharks did their damage in the first three innings, scoring 13 runs on 15 hits. Lauren Margolis ended Nova Southeastern's shutout bid with a three-run homerun in the fifth frame, her fourth of the year. Eckerd's rally was halted as NSU took the opener, 13-3.

The finale played to a much closer affair. Nova Southeastern got on the board in the first as Sydney Lageyre scored on a passed ball. However, Brenna Lokeinsky immediately answered with a solo shot to right field to tie the game, 1-1. In the second inning, NSU's Madison Fine answered with a homerun to regain the Sharks' lead, 2-1.

Nova Southeastern plated six runs in innings four through five via an RBI double, four RBI singles, and a sacrifice fly. Margolis hit her second homerun of the day in the sixth stanza, and Hannah Burge tallied an RBI groundout in the seventh, but it was not enough, as NSU took game two and the series, 8-3.
