Tritons Drop Doubleheader at Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Despite a solid pitching performance that saw the Tritons' staff give up just two earned runs across both games, the Eckerd softball team dropped a doubleheader at Rollins, who posted a pair of shutout victories with a 2-0 win in the opener and a 1-0 walk-off win in the finale Friday afternoon at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

Both teams were slow to get going in game one, as the squads were held scoreless through two frames. The Tritons had a runner in scoring position in the third after Brenna Lokeinsky was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Megan Diaz groundout, but EC could not push the run across. Rollins opened the scoring with an RBI single from Tyler Jo Colby in the third.

In the sixth, Colby added a solo shot to center field for a much-needed insurance run as Rollins took a 2-0 lead. Eckerd had an opportunity late to cut into RC's favor when Brooklyn Cardona ripped a single up the middle and later moved to second after Sara Soterakis was hit by a pitch, but the Tritons could not plate a run.

Dominant pitching continued to be the day's theme in the finale, with Rollins needing just one run to secure the victory, which came when Tristin Peace scored on a walk-off throwing error as the Tars earned the doubleheader sweep. EC's best chance came in the fourth inning with Skylar Redish in scoring position, but the Tritons were unable to push her across.
