AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team dropped a road contest at NAIA No. 11 Ave Maria, 6-0, Thursday afternoon at the AMU Tennis Facility.
The Gyrenes (8-5) beat the Tritons (3-12) after earning the doubles point and winning five singles matches before the last singles match was halted due to rain.
Raia Jagger and Alexis Kwasnik lost in No. 1 doubles, 6-0. However, the No. 2 pairing of Theo Schultz and Lili Reichert improved on that mark but ultimately fell 6-3, giving Ave Maria the doubles point.
Jagger managed to win three games in the No. 4 singles draw before dropping her match 6-3 and 6-0. AMU's Julia Candiotto defeated Schultz in the No. 1 singles slot 6-1 and 6-1. Kwasnik also won two games from the No. 3 position, falling 6-2 and 6-0.
Julia Triska managed to take six games in the No. 5 singles slot, falling 6-2 in the opening set and trailing 5-4 in the second before it was called due to the weather.
Eckerd returns to action on Sunday at 10:00 AM for its final SSC contest of the season against No. 1 Barry at the Bullard Courts.
