MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second frame, but Barry rallied the rest of the way to force extra innings, where the Tritons took a three-run lead. However, the Buccaneers rallied again with four runs in the 12th inning to take the series opener, 12-11, on Saturday at Feinbloom Field.
The two teams began the game on Friday at 5:00 PM and made it into the seventh inning before the weather forced the contest to be delayed until Saturday.Â
EC used a five-run opening frame to take a large early lead via a two-run single by Mitch Donofrio, a two-run double by Michael Ballard, and a sacrifice fly by Jake Andriole. The Tritons tacked on another two runs in the second inning on a Donofrio single and an error.Â
Barry added five runs over the fifth through seventh innings to trail, 7-5. Donofrio drove in another run in the eighth to push EC in front 8-5, but BU rallied for three runs in the ninth on three straight RBI singles.Â
An RBI single by Joe Wike and a two-run single by Mickey Burke put Eckerd up 11-8 in the 12th, but the Buccaneers responded for four runs on a two-run single and back-to-back RBI singles for the walk-off victory.Â
