Tritons Sweep Doubleheader, Take Series From Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - In both games of the doubleheader, the Eckerd baseball team jumped out to an early lead and fended off a pair of Barry rallies as the Tritons swept the doubleheader, 7-5 and 7-6, to take the series on Sunday at Feinbloom Field.

The teams both plated a run in the opening frame of the first game, but Eckerd added four runs over the next two innings for a 5-1 lead. EC scored via an error, a Mikey Burke RBI groundout, a Michael Ballard single, and an RBI fielder's choice by Danny Gutcher

Jake Andriole added an insurance run for the Tritons in the fifth on an RBI double. Barry responded for three runs in the bottom of the frame to trail 6-4. Eckerd added its final run in the ninth, as did the Buccaneers, but the Tritons held off the BU rally to take the opener.

Eckerd jumped ahead again in the finale with three runs in the opening stanza on a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single by Ballard.

The Bucs evened the score at 3-3 in the fifth, but Eckerd quickly regained the lead in the next inning on an error and pair of RBI singles by Gunner Womer and Burke.

BU pulled within one following a pair of solo homeruns in the sixth and eighth. However, Eckerd added a much-needed insurance run in the ninth on a Tyler Cox RBI single as Barry rallied for a run in the ninth but was unable to complete the comeback.
