BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team added a run in the fifth inning but could not overcome an early 3-0 deficit at Lynn, falling, 4-1, in game one of the series Friday afternoon at the Lynn Softball Complex.
The Fighting Knights opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning, which proved to be the catalyst via an RBI single and a two-run single.
Eckerd scored its only run in the fifth. Sara Soterakis began the inning with a double to left field and later scored when Hannah Burge reached on an error.
The Tritons had another chance to score in the sixth when Brenna Lokeinsky singled, and Lauren Margolis walked. However, Lokeinsky was out at home in an attempt to push a run across on Skylar Redish's single, and Lynn held on to take the series opener, 4-1.
