ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team battled but lost a 6-1 contest against Walsh University (Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Cavaliers (8-5) beat the Tritons (2-7, 0-5 SSC) after earning the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches.
Ericka Chavarria and Kylie Misdorp won a tight No. 1 doubles draw 7-6 (7-3) to give EC early momentum. The Tritons' Alexis Kwasnik and Raia Jagger narrowly lost the No. 2 slot, 6-4. The No. 3 tandem of Theo Schultz and Lili Reichcert were edged, 7-5, giving the Cavaliers the doubles point.
Misdorp took the No. 2 singles slot to a third-set tiebreak after winning the first set, 6-3, before dropping the second, 6-1, and ultimately falling in the third, 10-8.
Kwasnik gave the Tritons their only win in singles competition by beating Walsh's Carla Padberg 7-6 (7-3) and 6-3. Julia Triska also took her matchup to a tiebreaker, losing a close favor, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-3.
The Tritons welcome Dallas Baptist (Texas) to the Bullard Courts on Friday at 3:00 PM.
