ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team dropped an out-of-conference matchup against Walsh University (Ohio), 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Cavaliers (8-5) beat the Tritons (2-6, 0-3 SSC) after earning the doubles point and winning five singles matches outright and the sixth by default.
The duo of Christian Kearns and Arthur de Souza Fonseca battled and won five games out of the No. 1 draw but ultimately fell, 7-5. Prakrut Patel and Eric Asakura got the Tritons back on track with a win in No. 2 doubles, 6-2. However, Eckerd lost the No. 3 draw by default.
Patel won five games out of the No. 1 singles slot but fell 6-3 and 6-2. Fonseca fought out of the No. 2 singles position, barely losing the first set, 7-5, before dropping the second set in another close contest, 6-4.
Asakura and Kearns won five games out of the No. 3 and No. 4 draw but lost 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-4, respectively.
The Tritons remain home for another out-of-conference matchup with Illinois Wesleyan on Monday at 10:00 AM.
