ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team began its match with the coveted doubles point, with wins out of the No. 1 and No. 2 draw, but fell to Rollins, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Bullard Courts.
The Tars (4-3, 2-2 SSC) then won five of six singles matchups.
The duo of Pierre-Olivier Lassalle and Prakrut Patel started things off on the right foot out of the No. 1 doubles position, defeating the Tars' Denis Golubev and Mikkel Baumann, 7-5. Christian Kearns and Arthur de Souza Fonseca answered in the No. 2 slot, beating their opponents, 6-3, to give EC the doubles point.
Lassalle continued to work in the No. 1 singles draw, defeating Golubev in a third-set tie break, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7. Fonseca won four games out of the No. 3 singles position but lost 6-4 and 6-0. Kearns battled from his No. 5 slot, narrowly losing the first set, 7-5, before falling 6-2 in the second.
Eckerd (1-5, 0-3 SSC) remains at the Bullard Courts for the first of five consecutive out-of-conference matchups, beginning with Stonehill (Mass.) on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
