DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After falling, 11-0, in the opener, the Tritons softball team had a chance to upset the nationally-ranked Eagles with the bases loaded in the seventh but were unable to capitalize, falling 4-2, and dropping the doubleheader at No. 25 Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon at Radiology Associates Field.
Eckerd struggled to get going offensively in the first game as the Eagles won handily, 11-0, in five innings. Addisan Langston broke up ERAU's Mallory Kinahan's no-hit bid with a pinch-hit single in the fifth, but the Tritons were unable to capitalize with two runners on.
The Tritons struck first in game two as Lauren Margolis cracked a solo shot to left field for a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. EC added to its favor with an RBI groundout by Hannah Burge in the second inning for an early 2-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning, ERAU added three runs in the fourth via an RBI single and a two-RBI single.
An RBI triple gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead in the fifth. Eckerd had a chance to answer with the bases loaded in the seventh as Megan Diaz reached base on a fielder's choice, Kayla Hurley hit a single to left field, and Brooklyn Cardona was hit by a pitch. However, the Tritons could not push a run across and fell, 4-2.
