WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team fell in an SSC road contest at Palm Beach Atlantic, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
The Sailfish (6-7, 1-4 SSC) beat the Tritons (3-10, 0-7 SSC) after earning the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches.
Ericka Chavarria and Julia Triska battled out of the No. 3 doubles slot, narrowly falling 6-4. Alexis Kwasnik and Raia Jagger (6-0) also fell in the No. 1 draw, with Theo Schultz and Lili Reichert dropping the No. 2 position, 6-1.
Jagger won her matchup in the No. 5 singles position in a third-set tiebreak, winning the first set 7-6 but falling in the second set, 5-7, before bouncing back in the third to take the match, 10-8.
Chavarria battled in a hard-fought match against PBA's Elvira Edstrom, losing the opening set 6-3 before bouncing back in set two, 6-4, and forcing a third-set tiebreak, ultimately falling 10-3 in the pivotal third set. Schultz won three games in the No. 2 slot but lost 6-1 and 6-2.
The Tritons welcome Saint Leo for Senior Day on Wednesday, April 6, at 3:00 PM.
