ORLANDO, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team won its second match of the season, 4-3, against the University of Mary (ND) at the USTA National Campus Wednesday morning.
The Tritons (2-6, 0-5 SSC) beat the Marauders (6-2) after earning the doubles point and splitting the singles matches.
The duo of Alexis Kwasnik and Raia Jagger gave the Tritons momentum from the No. 2 doubles draw by beating the Marauders' Doaa Farouk Mohamed and Emily Needham, 6-3. Lili Reichert and Theo Schultz secured the doubles point with their defeat of Callie McDonald and Heidi Jacobson, 6-1.
In the No. 1 singles slot, Misdorp went the distance with UMary's Chloe Chong, losing the first set 6-2 but bouncing back to win a pivotal second set, 6-3, before falling, 10-4 in a third-set tie break. Mary then took the No. 3 and No. 4 slots, 6-1 and 6-2, and 1-6, 6-4, and 12-10 from Reichert and Kwasnik, respectively. The Tritons answered in the No. 5 and 6 singles draw, with Triska winning with ease 6-1 and 6-0. Jagger claimed a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) victory to even the match at 3-3.
In the No. 2 singles position, Schultz did her part clinching the match in a third-set tie break, 6-1, 5-7, and 10-8.
The Tritons return to the Bullard Courts, continuing their nonconference slate with a match against Walsh (Ohio) next Wednesday at 3:00 PM.
