ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Timely hitting and dominant pitching were all the Tritons needed to defeat Bloomsburg (Pa.) in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader, as the Eckerd softball team won both games 6-0 and 2-1, at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The first game was all Eckerd, as the Tritons blanked Bloomsburg for a 6-0 win. EC opened the scoring in the second inning, plating three runs via a bases-loaded walk drawn by Sara Soterakis, an RBI fielder's choice by Hannah Burge, and an RBI double by Brenna Lokeinsky. Lauren Margolis added to Eckerd's tally with an RBI double in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the sixth.
Hannah Perkins was equally as dominant in the circle, picking up her seventh win of the season behind a complete-game shutout with five strikeouts.
Neither team had much offense in the second showing, with Eckerd striking first in the fourth inning off an RBI double by Megan Diaz. BU answered the next inning with an RBI single from Nicolette Ray. Eckerd scored the winning run in the sixth, as Lokeinsky drew a bases-loaded walk, giving the Tritons a 2-1 favor.
The Huskies nearly carved out a seventh-inning rally but ultimately fell short. With two outs and runners on first and second, BU's Erin DelPierre cracked a single to dead center field that should have brought Kayleigh Lenner home, if not for a great throw by Hannah Burge, who cut down the runner at the plate for the final out to seal the win for the Tritons, 2-1.
